Here at Payne Killers we have gotten the opportunity to meet Rockstar Games and play Max Payne 3 before its release. We have written about our experience in New York City and with the game itself. You can read about it here: http://www.paynekill...-fansite-event/

Other fansites will have their previews up shortly, and we will link to them in a few hours when everyone has them up. We thank you for reading about our experience. If you have any questions at all, please ask us in the forums.

Well written, good sir, well written indeed!

I won't tell much about the SP part since I covered that bit in the CVG preview (they got to play the same level) so I'll say something about MP. I still think the weight system is a very great idea. All those Bursts we have sounds preety awesome, but it'll be hard for me to switch from Bullet time. I also liked the fact, that there are many factions, didin't knew you'd get to play the Punchinellos, sounds awesome.

About Payne Killer, how does the shootout work exactly? You said it is very similiar to RDR, but how? Do all people stand next to each other and have to draw or is it a short game of elimination? To be honest, I didin't precisly like the standoffs in RDR, too many chaos for me and most people somehow managed to pull a headshot on me in a blink of the eye, where you don't have crosshairs in the beginning.

The bursts do sound pretty fresh and will be great for a lot of different multiplayer matches. Very well written hands-on preview rockstarrem. I really enjoyed reading through it and finally got to learn more about the multiplayer part. Much appreciated :)

As rockstarrem wrote in the preview. Payne Killer will start off with a typical standoff, all the participiants of the match face to face or placed in a circle, you know just the same as the standoffs turned out to be in RDR, if you can remember them. Then there'll most likely be a countdown counting down from 3 seconds or so and if it turns to 0 you just have to shoot and try to survive until everyone else died. There should be some places to take cover for sure ... that person who manages to stay alive until the end of the standoff, so until everyone else died, turns into Max's character, the one who died before the winner of the standoff, so before the last man standing or so gets Raul's avatar/character and then the normal Payne Killer mode begins. You got how it works now?

Here's a video of a RDR standoff:

Great article! Really enjoyed it, n made me put myself in your shoes!! Thanks for sharing that awesome experience! No pictures needed, it was very detailed n descriptive! Only thing I seem not to like in Max Payne 3 so far, n I've seen in commercials or trailers, is the weapons wheel. it looks a lot bigger than RDR! i liked the old Max Payne 1 & 2 titles where it was above you n didn't really interfere with your gameplay. hope it's easier to use than on RDR where for me it was hard to get to the next weapon while trying to move n aim...

Well, in my opinion the weapon wheel made things way easier. I got used to it in RDR since my first try. I think they couldn't stick with the system from the previous Max Payne games as that would have been pretty annoying for the console gamers, just as me, out there. They've seen that the wheel system works perfect in RDR, so that's why I think they just came up with the same for Max Payne 3 and even for their upcoming games, like GTAV or so. I also think that the weapon wheel makes the weapons selection a lot faster, it wasn't that fast in Max Payne 1 and 2, or maybe I just haven't got how to use the system properly :) Also as of the fact that you can just get three weapons and a flashbang, flamethrower or that stuff with Max at all the time, the wheel system does make a lot more sense, doesn't it?

Yeah, the previous system would be very annoying if it was put in Max Payne 3, it would be as bad as the GTA weapon system, I hate how I had to scroll through every weapon until I got to it.

Meh, it woudln't be that annoying since you're going to have 3 guns max all the time.

Yes, I know how a standoff in RDR looks, just like I wrote. I just wanted to be sure if it's precisly the same in Max 3. Still wainting 'till Rem will confirm this. I think a normal elimination would be much better since the standoff will be based on skill only and the winner would be a very skilled player. So in that case, the game would make him even more powerful. That kinda ruins the balance in some way.

Good point.

And Desdilian, the begining of PayneKiller is set up like a free for all deathmatch, first kill becomes Max first death becomes passos.

You might be right actually, I could of got RDR's start mixed up in my head :/ where did you read that?

I can't remember, I have bad memory and jumble things up as I've read so many articles. I definetly read something about it being a mad goose chase around the map to find someone, which suggests that it was some sort of free for all.

Also, the starter for red dead redemption wouldn't really fit in a modern day shooter, that was more western styled combat.

Yeah, I can remember that this was stated in a lot of previous previews about the game, that's why I was a little bit confused about the fact that the beginning turns out being a standoff, just as in RDR.

So the Payne Killer mode will probably start like a standard deathmatch, as you said the first killer turns into Max, the first dead guy turns into Raul Passos.

I've found a preview over at guardian, here's a sneak excerpt, regarding how Payne Killer works:

Alongside standard variants such as Team Deathmatch, MP3's online mode contains contests such as Payne Killer and Gang Wars. In the former all the players start off with their selected load-outs. The first and second to score a kill become Max Payne and Max's buddy Passos respectively. Then, all the other players are tasked with taking them down. Players score points for every kill they pull off with either Max or Passos, and once they're gunned down, their killer nicks their avatar.

So it's not the first death/kill, it's the first and second kill. Now that makes sense.
RemiClarke's photo
RemiClarke 3rd May, 2012 @ 14:26 - Permalink
No? What? I've heard several times that the first person to die becomes passos, otherwise it would leave max on his own for a while and easy to kill.
Desdelian's photo
Desdelian 3rd May, 2012 @ 14:43 - Permalink
Then it would be easier for others to group up, don't you think? Imagine you're playing with a friend, you spawned and you tell him "I'm here, come and shoot me". He does and you both become Max and Passos in a second and have a HUGE advantage over others because you two will cooperate all the time. That woudln't make sense.

I don't think you can join Paynekiller in parties. Only gangwars
Desdelian's photo
Desdelian 3rd May, 2012 @ 15:06 - Permalink
Nah, I'm preety sure R* wouldn't set a limit like that. Look at Uncharted's TDM. The whole team can be a party. There's also a Three Team Deathmatch gamemode in which three teams (w players per team) compete against each other and parties can play in it. Or even RDR.
RemiClarke's photo
RemiClarke 3rd May, 2012 @ 15:14 - Permalink
Yeah, but neither Uncharted or RDR had a gamemode like that.

I'm sure we'll find out when Knightley will be interviewing R* staff on Spike.

It's already been discussed on several interviews.

Rockstar sent them to all the webmasters. I wish they sent ones of me :/. I'll upload all the screenshots and pictures they sent later for you guys, but I'm sure you've seen them all.

You might have a look on these http://www.paynekillers.com/forums/topic/1271-max-payne-3-screens/ which I posted a day ago. Actually that are the ones Rockstar provided to the fansites that were invited to the event. Maybe there are some more but for now have a look on them. It starts with "Here is another screenshots update ..."
