I picked a few of the most known female video-game characters. Sorry if some descriptions don't make sense, I got 'em off Wikipedia. Starting with, of course:
1. Mona Sax
Games: Max Payne, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Description: The twin sister of Lisa Punchinello and a contract killer, Mona is the femme fatale of the game. She has a grudge against her sister Lisa's abusive husband, Mafia boss Angelo Punchinello, whom she desires to kill. After Puchinello is killed, she sides with Nicole Horne who hires her to kill Max. Finding herself unable to do so, she is shot in the head by Horne's henchman and collapses into an elevator. She reappears in the sequel as a playable character.
2. Lara Croft
Games: Tomb Raider series
Description: Lara is depicted as an athletic woman of English descent, who has brown eyes and frequently keeps her long brown hair in a plait or ponytail. The character's classic costume is a turquoise sleeveless Bodysuit, light brown shorts, calf-high boots, long white socks, fingerless gloves, a backpack, a utility belt with holsters on either side and two pistols, an outfit appearing in nearly every Tomb Raider game to date. In the later games, she wears a crop top. Variations on this theme, such as camouflage pants and black or light brown shirts, have appeared in some games and she has worn a wet suit for a watery environment or trousers and a jacket for a colder area.
3. Rayne
Games: Bloodrayne series
Description: Rayne is a bloodthirsty American Dhampir, born c.1915-1916. Her mother was raped by her vampire father, Kagan.[12] Kagan later murdered her mother's entire family so that the only family member Rayne could turn to is him. This wasn't cruelty, but a policy for all of the dhampir he "created", possibly so that humans wouldn't revolt and use the vampire/dhampir weakness of the sun, holy items and water against them. Circa 1932, she spent her teenage years trying to hunt down and kill her father, to avenge her family. Her search led her to Europe, where she murdered Vampires before being apprehended.[12] She claimed that her victims had been vampires, but was disbelieved by the authorities, but quickly managed to escape from them and continue her hunt.
5. Alyx Vance
Games: Half Life 2
Description: Alyx is a generally friendly person, though she shows some hostility towards Dr. Judith Mossman due to her somewhat patronizing attitude, as well as Mossman's apparent interest in her father. The hostility abates at the end of Half-Life 2, when Dr. Mossman helps Alyx in escaping the Citadel. She also holds Breen responsible for her mother's death (when Breen mentions her mother, she spits on him and responds, "How dare you even mention her!"). Also, she appears to be somewhat playful, and caring in some cases. Alyx also has a sense of humor, as evidenced by the jokes she makes about the Combine or Gordon's silence. An example of this can be seen in the Lowlife chapter of Episode One, when she begins to make noises like a zombie to scare the player.
6. Kendl Johnson

Games: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Description: Kendl Johnson is CJ and Sweet's sister. She is also Cesar Vialpando's girlfriend. She wears green clothing to indicate her affiliation with the Grove Street Families, although she appears to have little tolerance for the gang and once referred to the "Grove 4 Life" philosophy as "bullshit." After learning about Big Smoke and Ryder's betrayal, CJ requests that Cesar bring Kendl to safety by fleeing from Los Santos. Later in the storyline, Cesar pondered proposing to Kendl, but the question of whether Kendl accepted or not remains unanswered. It is assumed they did get engaged. Kendl is depicted as intelligent and pragmatic, which suggests that although her brothers turned to crime as a last resort to support themselves, Kendl could become successful within the bounds of the law. She possesses entrepreneurial talents, strong willpower, creativity, and a sense of leadership. She has little tolerance for whining or complaining, which causes CJ and others to regard her as a bit bossy.
7. Rachel Teller
Games: Need For Speed Underground 2
Description: Samantha's best friend and the player's helper, mentor and part time agent. Rachel will call the player, via SMS, throughout the game letting the player know about unlocks, upgrades, sponsorships, and racing tips. She drives a Nissan 350Z. She is mentioned in Undercover.
8. Mia Townsend
Games: Need For Speed Most Wanted
Description: If you cam see through the bad acting, she's an undercover cop in NFS Most Wanted sent to nail Rockport city's most wanted street racers including the player which for some reason she lets escape at the end of the game...
9. Chell
Games: Portal, Portal 2
Description: She's the main character in the game. That's all there is to know... and I'm kinda' bored of copying everything from Wikifail
10. Zoey
Games: Left 4 Dead (main character), Left 4 Dead 2 (episodic character)
Description: Bored of writing...
